Walking seems to be a problem with my 'Untouchable' from My-Steel. It is too wide at the base though I very much like the way it spreads pressure away from the genitals and over the abdomen. I do have a Carrara but there are days I don't want to alter the earth's magnetic field moving that much metal. Anyone know of a lighter, more conforming shaped belt? Thanks in advance: Link n Lock |

I have a female belt (Neosteel) that I purchased for a friend that has basically the same problem. Too wide between the legs. Seems to be a common problem with the steel belts. |

This is a regular problem with steel belts. As you know, a lot depends on the quality of the fit and how you move-walk in it. Silicone edging has a downside, when slightly damp (as opposed to wet) it grips the skin and this exacerbates the problem of chafing. Other edging materials may help, I am experimenting with RAYRIM myself at the moment; and will update you if it helps. Susan |

Thanks Susan. I was getting nowhere over extended periods with lubes, greases or talc, so the idea that there is a 'better' lining material is interesting. The design of the lower portion of the 'cup' seems to be important too. I have not tried (afforded) a wire rear strap yet. Any thoughts there would be most welcome too. L & L |

Dear Redflash Well a few years ago I made several belts, mostly thong style, based on flat sheet material, using a modified traditional Tollyboy-Jones shield shape. I basically like My-Steel as a maker, though I believe they do use thicker plate than Tollyboy for both shield and waistband. The untouchable shield must be so rigid that no shaping (fine tuning) is possible and it looks very wide to me, I don’t think I could live with it myself, for the reasons you stated. Eye shaped rear designs (also known as “Total” belts) are generally less flexible and restrict movement more. Some makers choose not to make that style because fit is even more critical than usual and they are very hard to alter. My-Steel make separate Frontal-shield and Eye-rear plates for their total belts, which makes alterations simpler but may make them more rigid. I have not seen or played with one in the flesh to assess them properly; please tell me more about yours. I find thong format belts more practical and comfortable. My Tollyboy F-MGA200 also uses the narrower female shield shape and has a modified tube (making this a single lock design). Like you I find the silicone edging rubs a bit; and I want to try a shield edged in RAYRIM (a material I used on some of the belts I made for myself) or bare metal, which I also tried in my NS4 alloy belts. To make a non-edged stainless frontal shield safe you need 3mm plate - and round off all the edges smoothly. To make and shape a naked shield in 3mm stainless you MUST have a proper bending tool; but I believe it would work well, once you got the shape right. The final option for flat sheet is a rolled edge in thin sheet stainless, which was tried by an Australian DIY belt maker some years ago. That did look fantastic but I have no idea how it felt, or how practical it was. He had this belt riveted on, so presumably he really liked it. Regarding thongs: I find them the best format I have tried. My Tollyboy thong is finely adjustable as well and can be swopped for a longer or shorter one in two minutes if I need that (which I recently did). I would never go for chains myself; they are so hard to keep clean if uncovered and adding heat-shrink covering traps moisture. Though I would like to try a total belt (to see how it worked out for me) I would probably go right back to a thong ASAP. I hope some of that is helpful. Susan |
