Original Artistic Handicraft from Italy - Florence
Faithful copy, realized by a Florentine master craftsmen, originally realized for a local museum. Obtained from a Silver 950 folio. It weights one kilo and it took more than 40 days to make it!
This Masterpiece is unique and represents a curiosity end at the same time an important historic piece. It is the faithful replica of the one weared by Caterina dei Medici member of a noble family of Florence in the XIV century.
Embossed on the front a head with horns probably a devil, and the heads of Adam and Eve and the prohibited fruit tree.
There are many mentioned documents to prove the use of chastity belt in the course of history. One of them is the poem of Guyeme. In one document dated 1406 the chastity belt was qualified as "Florentine machinery", referring to the famous promiscuity of Florentine inhabitants.
Elsewere the invention was attributed to Francesco Carrara said Bellifortis (the Beauty Padlock). He lived in the XIV century in Florence, and chastity belt became popular all over Europe.
Renaissance documents mention that a lot of towns as Rome, Venice and Bergamo produced such instruments. The Museum of Cluney, in Paris sets the two most famous chastity belts: The one over mantioned worn by Caterina dei Medici Florence 13 April 1519 Castle of Blois 5 Genuary 1589 bride of Enrico the Second of France. The other is the one worn by Anna from Austria bride of Luigi XIII. |
