As some of us know already...

Disaster has struck the online chastity belt community!

The server that hosts Altarboy's website in Finland is broken and needs to be replaced.

This is why Altarboy's website has been down. It is NOT down for maintenance.

Robert, of keysafe.org fame, has kindly started collecting funds for the new server via the cb mailing list, but we are still well short of collecting the USD$920 needed for a new server.

Please send your donations via PayPal to "robert@abilina.org"

Please donate and bring altarboy's website back!

And get the word out there into the interweb!!!

The text of Robert's email alerting us to the situation follows:

subject [cb] TPE server donations needed
mailed-by serve101.org

The web server that hosts TPE.COM (and Altairboy's web site) is broken. The cost of a new machine will be around $920.00 US. Unfortunately sending a new machine to Finland is not an option due to all the problems with Finish import customs.

My friend in Finland who hosts the web site, at no charge to us, cannot justify (or afford) to purchase a replacement machine. I am asking for donations to pay for the new machine. Please send your donations, in any amount, to my PayPal account "robert@abilina.org". Put "server donation" in the comment field. I will be personally making up the shortfall, what ever amount that is.

If you wish I will be happy to acknowledge, on this mailing list, everyone who contributes. All funds will go towards the new server. If an excess amount is raised, the excess will be returned to those who donated the largest amounts.

Robert

My question is, why doesnt he just get a web hosting service to do this? for $920 im sure he could get a decent hosting. And isnt this the site that has most of its photos stripped anyways?

Many adult oriented web sites moved to servers outside of the USA because of governmental regulation. Such was the case with Altairboy. Yes, the photos were removed but the Altairboy written record is a history of the modern chastity belt and the community that embraces its use. It is an invaluable source of information that cannot be replaced. It must be remembered that it is the creation of one person who has dedicated much time and work to a hobby interest. It is not commercial. Finding and using a web hosting service is not a viable option.

If his server isnt in the US, then, why the photo removal?

Because HE is - the American government (like most) go for the soft target, when proving to the moral majority that they ARE doing something "effective" against us kinky folk.

The server is not hosted with a company due to bandwidth. The site uses about 2gig / DAY. That is over 60 gig / month and puts the site into the expencive range quickly. The server is hosted for free at the Finland location so the price of less than $1000 for the server is a deal if you look at it over a years time.

As for the images, it is in Finland so that the site can have images. The issue is that the older articles have images that they do not know where they came from and as a result had to remove them. If you want to post a new article with images that you have taken they will be posted.

Robert is a friend of mine and he has said that he has all of the donations that were needed.

Dear friends
Can anyone explain the US goverments moral for us humans living outside?

It is ok to wear lethal weapons, but not showing sex and kinks.

Are chasted people suspected to become rapers or serial murders, or what is this all about?

A deacent opinion would preferably be that chastity works to prevent sex.
It all sounds very stupid to me.

Last I checked the law was simply that the web master had to have proof that none of the pics are of underage people.

Since a lot of the posts are anonymous and no proof of age, no pictures

I'm sure there must be a dozen ways round it. For example could he not sell for a nominal fee, or give away, a cd to someone outside who then owns and hence can publish these?

As Jillian noted above, sufficient funds for the server have been raised. Thanks to everybody who donated or attempted to donate!

Thanks to everyone who contributed to the new server. No more donations are needed, the full amount has been raised. The server will be purchased today and should be delivered in Finland in less than a week. Soon after that, the server will be put into operation.

BTW, no data was lost because while the old server died, the hard drives on it were fine, and the data was able to be recovered using another machine.

Nah, USD$1000 isn't a whole lot of money you know...

It's only about the cost of a new Neosteel, or about 1.5 Locked in Steels, 2 Carrara standards, 1.5 Carrara concepts, 1 My-Steel, 1.3 Tollyboys, or about 5-10 CBxxxx's

Progress report from Robert:

Good news, both the money and the new machine have arrived in Finland. The hosting service will be picking up the new server today (and paying for it with your generous donations). We should be back on the web very soon now.

Thanks once again to everyone who contributed,

So what has happened here? It appears the money was received, and the server was picked up, but so far I cannot get his site to come up. Still saying "server down for maintenance".

ah , sorry i missed this , i might have been able to help ...

im a little confused though .. i.e. somebody said it used 2gig a day ... surley thats wrong as the site is mainly text and little images isnt it ?

We run a forum website with over 14,000 members with pics and vids and it doesnt reach that level daily , even with downloadable video content.

as far as the `law` the `pics` side requires that not only does the webhost have to have proof of age , but also that they are available during `normal working hours` for any visits / spot checks to verify that proof. .. but that only aplies in the usa .

so hosting a site outside the usa doesnt require the proof or its ascociated problems , so it doesnt matter if you forgot where the pics came from or if the owners are contactable ..

im NOT knocking the GOOD work done btw , just im confused ...

Time for an update, paraphrased from Robert's posting on the CB emailing list:

The server arrived in Finland a couple of weeks ago, but came without a CD/DVD drive which the service provider insisted is necessary for installing the operating system.

The CD/DVD drive arrived last Friday, but came without the necessary adapter cable (SATA + Power to Slim SATA), so now that's on order.
