Well the answer to this question depends on what you want a Chastity Belt to do. The following should help make this clear:
The most basic reason for wearing a Chastity Belt is to prevent the wearer from engaging in heterosexual intercourse. So do Chastity Belts prevent the wearer from engaging in heterosexual intercourse?
Absolutely yes! Even a belt that fits poorly should prevent the wearer from participating in penile-vaginal intercourse, full stop!
So do Chastity Belts prevent the wearer from having an orgasm?
This question has no simple answer. It depends on the person. For most women, the answer to this question is yes. For most men, the answer is also yes. But there are exceptions to this for both men and women. The fit of the belt is very, very important. If the belt fits poorly, the chances of the wearer being able to masturbate increase. But if the belt fits well, it is like a second skin, and masturbation is extremely difficult.

The downside of this is that no one else can wear the belt, except for someone with nearly the exact same measurements. When the belt is on it should feel like a "Second Skin". By this I mean that it should be tight against the body, not too tight that it is painful, and not loose enough that you can get more than 2 fingers under the waistband or front shield.
The Chastity Belts made today have no rough edges. They are all smoothly sanded and polished to prevent cuts, scratches, or scrapes to the wearer.
Also Chastity Belts made today are edged with neoprine or some other rubber like coating which smooths and pads the surface of the belt so it is safe and comfortable for the wearer. This is critical if the wearer wants to wear the belt all the time.
Stainless steel DOES NOT RUST, so the belt will not corrode as the wearer wears it. Even urine, or other bodily secretions will not damage the belt. Also, the neoprine rubber edging will not come off or be damaged, except over very long periods (years) of use of the belt. If this does occur, the belt manufacturer will often times repair the belt or replace the neoprine for a small charge.
Neoprine and stainless steel do not adversely affect the skin. PVC Plastics can harm the skin over time from prolonged exposure. Steel and Neoprine do not affect the skin, and with good hygiene practices, you will not experience any skin damage or rash.
Stainless Steel Chastity Belts can be very hygenic. It does take some extra time to clean oneself after using the restroom, but it is not extremely difficult. Urination and defication can be done cleanly and effectively. I would recommend that the wearer clean themselves and the belt regularly to prevent any problems. Here are some tips that may be helpful in keeping clean:
- It is wise to bathe in the belt if you cannot remove it. This allows the water to get underneath the belt and clean areas a shower might not be able to.
- If you have no bath, get a detachable shower head, so you can use it to get the belt and the surrounding tissue as clean as possible.
- If you are outside of your home while wearing the belt, keep with you at all times sanitary wet napkins (wet naps). These can be used to clean the belt and your body after using the bathroom, or changing sanitary napkins during mensturation. Wipe and clean as usual with toilet paper, and then use the sanitary wet napkin to sanitize the belt and your skin thoroughly. This will greatly help to improve the cleanliness of the covered areas.
- Baby powder will help keep skin dry under the belt, and help to keep it from getting a rash. You should always apply baby powder to the skin under the belt when putting the belt on.
